With a new president, TIP looks forward to bigger strides in ‘technopreneurship’
Angelo Q. Lahoz: president of the Technological Institute of the Philippines

The Technological Institute of the Philippines (TIP) begins a new chapter with the appointment of Angelo Lahoz as president. The announcement was made by TIP chair Elizabeth Quirino-Lahoz last Feb. 21 during the school’s 63rd anniversary celebration.

The new TIP president is the firstborn son of Quirino-Lahoz and Angel Lahoz and the grandson of the school’s founders, Demetrio and Teresita Quirino. He previously served TIP as assistant vice president for administration for 15 years and as senior vice president and vice chair for eight years.

Angelo Lahoz says he is determined to preserve his grandparents’ legacy, to complement it with a modern take, and to refine the TIP brand through the lens of constructivism.

His educational philosophy is centered on the idea of “learning by doing,” or experience-based learning. This stance is manifested in the establishment of TechnoCoRe, the school’s thrust toward “technopreneurship” and industry-academe collaborative applied research.

Under TechnoCoRe, students and faculty are engaged in collaborative projects with industry giants to gain real-world perspectives and experience using equipment and facilities in their chosen fields. The program has led to the entry of TIP-developed patents into the market.

Lahoz completed his undergraduate degree in management information systems at the Ateneo de Manila University in 2000. He graduated with distinction from the Asian Institute of Management in 2006 with a master’s degree in management. He is completing his doctorate in education major in educational administration at the University of the Philippines.

An entrepreneur as well, Lahoz serves as president and CEO of SEBI Technologies Inc., TIP’s first spin-off which provides integrated school management systems to client schools in the Philippines. He is also active in the academic community, taking on different roles such as assistant treasurer in Edustria High School, the educational partnership between Far Eastern University and TIP.
